Working with a top athlete like Bert De Backer always puts things into perspective. Bert has dedicated so much of his life to cycling and has seen great succes during twenty year career as a professional cyclist.

Bert knows what it takes to become the best version of yourself. Now looking back at his fulfilled dreams, he’s ready for the next chapter in his life.

When Bert was younger, he always imagined himself becoming a pig farmer…

No, we did not create a pig-farmer-personal-brand.

… But that old dream of his granted him with a desire to make the most of every day and look at life with great common sense. His cycling days are swapped with family time and Bert is ready to strive for balance, further developing his skills as an analyst, speaker and ambassador.

As a former athlete, he understands the power of positivity and vibrant energy. Bert is ready to inspire people with his message.

Our approach

Brand Strategy and coaching
Bert was the type of person that knew what he stood for, but had no clue how to communicate his message to the world. The logical first step in the process was to put into words what exactly he wants to stand for. We had several workshops with Bert, nailing down his strategy and getting a good understanding of what his personal brand should consist of.

Brand identity
We then took that strategy, and translated it into designs. Strategic Brand Design was the right fit for Bert because he endlessly pondered about what his designs should look like. Using his strategy, we are able to create objective designs that give Bert the peace of mind he looks for, knowing his brand touchpoints are in line with who he is.

Website
The final step in this project was to create a website using his strategy and identity to allow Bert to show the world that he is serious about his personal brand, opening up more possibilities in the future.

Design should be objective
It’s hard when you receive a brand design to not ask your mom, dad, sister, uncles and your great grandmother’s sister’s best friend’s cousin their opinion on the design. But when you do that, you’ll start doubting about what you created, because design is usually subjective. By translating strategy into design, we subtract all of the opinions from the final result and deliver something that encapsulates what it is you stand for.

Keep it simple
When creating personal brands, the main thing we always keep in mind is to not overcomplicate the process and the deliverables. Bert isn’t looking to put a team of designers or marketeers on building his brand. He doesn’t need extensive style guides and simply needs the right tools, efficient workshops and the knowledge to build his own brand.

build for the future
Bert knows what he wants to focus on today, but there are plenty of opportunities that he is ready to explore in the future. Speaking at events is one of those. While he is not currently chasing those dreams, we’ve accounted for the possibility in his identity, strategy and have sections on his website ready to be launched when he is.
